Experimental Measuring Technology

Longstanding experience in the use of strain gauges to determine deformation and stress states traditionally form the basis of experimental measurement technology as well as for the development and production of the corresponding task-specific measuring and evaluation equipment.

In addition, all other conventional or innovative measuring methods are used for the measuring task. Depending on the problem, we design and manufacture appropriate sensors for measuring physical values.

On-site tests

Experimental measurements onsite

We carry out experimental measurements tests directly at our customers on site. The following examinations can be carried out:

  • Determination of wheel loads and supporting forces as well as center of gravity positions for the purpose of checking product features or for stability checks
  • Determination of stresses, deformations, vibrations, loading conditions, temperature fields and similar technical parameters on machines and systems of all kinds by long and short-term measurements with subsequent evaluation according to functional or safety aspects
  • Measurement of the geometry of cranes and other rail-guided machinery and equipment (for example wheel misalignment, endcarriage skew)
  • Determination of running behavior (for example skew forces)
  • Determination of deformation and stress conditions
  • Determination of wheel load distribution
  • Dynamic analyzes (for example lift off coefficients, natural frequencies)
  • Measurement of the crane runway (static and dynamic)
  • Measurement of operating time on supporting structures
  • Monitoring of constructions and supporting structures
  • Acceptance measurements
  • Measurement of human vibrations / hand-arm-vibrations
  • Weight determination of test weights or steel components by means of calibrated measurement standards up to 50,000 kg
  • Determination of real bearing forces of bridge constructions during assembly, during operation or during regular inspections or repairs
  • Assistance in adjusting statically overdetermined systems
  • Internal stress measurements on components directly at the manufacturer

Verifcation of damages

Measurements for the verification of damage symptoms

  • Measurement of geometry of cranes and other rail-guided machinery and equipment (such as wheel misalignment, endcarriage skews) and assessment of survey results according to VDI
  • Determination of running behavior by measurement and observation (for example skewing forces)
  • Determination of deformation and stress conditions
  • Determination of wheel load distribution on handling machinery
  • Determination of dynamic actions (for example lift off coefficients, non-stationary operations on machines)
  • Measurement of crane runway (static and dynamic)
  • Deformation measurements during operation
  • Measurement of stress ranges and determination of service life based on a damage hypothesis on the measured parts, taking into account the measurement results classificated by the rain-flow method and the relevant Wöhler curve
  • Definition of inspection intervals on the basis of measured stress ranges and thus calculated tear probabilities

Geometric measurements

Geometric measurements and coordinate measuring technology

  • Analysis of geometry of steel supporting structures in order to verify fabrication and assembly according to the drawing
  • Accompanying measurement of the geometry of steel supporting structures before, during and after reconstructions
  • Static and dynamic measurement of crane runways
  • Complex determination of geometries to analyze defective running characteristics of rail-bound equipment
